Jester Swinging in the Moonlight

jester art by Kim Peasley

One of my favorite illustrations, done in Affinity Designer for the vector-drawn jester girl and in Procreate for the tree and moonlit lake and sky.  I’ve always had a thing for jesters. So when I got Affinity Designer and started teaching myself how to use it, of course I started playing around with ideas for a jester. Once I made her, I needed to put her someplace.  So I decided on a swing in a tree in a magical setting.  I wanted something moody at night so I made the lake and then added the moonlight.  Affinity Designer has raster-based tools as well as vector ones, so I might have been able to achieve a similar result all in AD.  But  had been using Procreate for about a year and it is my go-to program for raster-based art.  I love the color palette on the girl and tree, but I also think the composition of empty space on the left adds power.
